The decline of taste

halloweenyarn.jpg

I know that I'm not the bastion of all tastefulness, but really, sometimes I see it declining before my eyes. Pretty soon it's going to be all felted birdhouses.
I couldn't resist this pillow at 70% off at Joann, though. Nor could I resist Caron Simply Soft Brights in Mango at 2.49/skein. I do not have any plan for it. I will probably swatch with it and wash the swatch and bang it around a bit to see what kind of item this is suited for. Yarn snobs, hold your tongues or I'll turn you into a Pound Of Love!

the elves strike again

You'll never guess what I found when I came home from work the other day*:

CIMG2866.JPG

*actually, it was long enough ago that it is plain embarrassing how long ago it was, but since I am working diligently on a bag for my sweetness, I think I am being let off the hook slightly by the elves.

togglicious

CIMG2863.JPGAh yes, I am still here, still knitting. Not so much as my love, but I am really twice as lax about documenting any of it. So here's the first of a few quick updates. Remember the creel? (Sweet criminy, it was July when I finished that!) Anyway, here is the toggle that I picked out for it at Windsor Button. It has been done for a good long while now, and I have come to the conclusion that the strap is too narrow and too short for me to feel comfortable slinging it over my shoulder, so maybe it will have a home somewhere else, or maybe I will just get over myself and use it as a small project bag.

candy corn

This sock has been done for weeks, sulking in the bottom of my knitting bag while I move on to other orange knitting. I want to finish the pair by halloween, though, for obviously reasons. The yarn is an interesting cotton invisibly plied with those slubs of microfiber you see pictured. It's Gefrida Maori.

I can't bring myself to take a progress picture of the wrap sweater. Trust me, it's a big orange trapezoid. I really don't feel like putting it on waste yarn or longer needles (even to try it on). BUT I did have my mom send me some fabulous antique buttons from her grandmother. The picture isn't the greatest, but you can see my choices on the fabric of the sweater. Sometimes my camera likes to remind me that it is vastly more intelligent that I am, and I haven't put enough work into our relationship.

I like the tortoise shell buckles, but I'm not sure about a buckle closure. The flower is actually a clip which I don't think would actually do for a closure, but mom sent it in the same I'm sort of liking the big pink button, even though the color combo is a bit odd. Thoughts?

not much to see

Several people commented on my Clapotis modeling pic asking what yarn I used.
It was Noro Kujaku in color 18. It feels a lot like Kureyon, but has a variegated nylon binder thread.

What's up with my brood of projects? Not much. I'm trying to work pretty exclusively on my wrap sweater, since it's getting chilly.
Omar has more exciting FO and WIP pics, so please bother him to post!

I'm going to go put my stripey socks on my cold toes!

Knitting Out

The Boston Knit Out and Crochet was this past weekend, and we came, we knit, we picnic-ed!
Actually, I just wove in ends and sewed. Fun!
Crumpets Final Product, on its way to its new owner. I am reasonably happy with it, but I am glad to be totally finished! I like the ribbon I found, it is an iridescent blue grosgrain with hot pink edges, perfect!

The special guest stars of the weekend were my parents, who met much of our knitting group. I gifted my mom with two skeins of Malabrigo merino worsted in a lovely blue shade, a copy of Stitch 'n Bitch, and a some size 9 Clover Bamboos. What else could get her hooked after her bad memories of failed poncho knitting in a class in the 70s?
Here she is, caught off-guard. I've heard tell her scarf now measures 6"!

Donna

Our picnic site was rather popular, owing to our magnetic personalities, or the fact we came prepared with blankets and lots of food!

My dearest is truly at one with nature.

Obviously, there is more than one ball of some of them. A prize to the winner! Although I am notoriously bad about sending prizes, I still owe Michelle from blog-o-rama something for guessing what yarn I was using for Clapotis! But I have a memory like an elephant, see!? :)

I think I might have to exempt my knitting group, since they have seem much of this stuff in person. But try anyway!

Yarn Collector

Sometimes I think I am less of a knitter and more of a yarn collector. I like to give a good home to beautiful orange yarns with more of their kind. Inspired by the un-put-away-ableness of the yarn I got at Windsor Button this Sunday, I made this display on one of our shelves. For a second I thought I should make a huge project with all these gorgeous oranges, but then I thought better of it. Three or so of these skeins are representative of larger lots. Please note our chicken with a brick in it, whom we love.

Orangeyarn

In no particular order: Steadfast fibers wool, Classic Elite Zelda, Gefrida Maori, Malabrigo in Tiger Lily, Cascade Fixation, Cotton Ease, Patons Divine, Katia Mississipi, my handspun, Classic Elite Posh, Classic Elite Flash in Clementine.
Can anyone find them all?
